The
Frank and Lila Gilman Memorial Fellowship was established
by a bequest from Wilbur Gilman in honor of his parents. Wilbur
Gilman was the first Chair of the Department (then the Department
of Speech and Dramatic Art) in 1940. The Gilman Fellowship provides
a scholarship to an outstanding doctoral student who is pursuing
rhetorical studies and who demonstrates exemplary scholarship in
rhetoric courses.
Loren
Reid taught at the University of Missouri from 1935-1938
and again from 1944-1999. He served as the chair of the department
from 1947-1952. He is considered an important leader in the discipline
of Communication and a significant influence for many students.
Loren Reid is honored by the Loren
Reid Outstanding Graduate Teaching Awards. This award recognizes
two graduate teaching assistants for their outstanding contributions
in the classroom.
The
Outstanding Graduate Student Award is awarded to a superior
graduate student and is selected by peers.
