Top Ten awardOur program has consistently been ranked among the top programs in the nation. An article published in 2007 in The Chronicle of Higher Education rated our department as a Top Ten Program in the United States based on the research productivity of our faculty. Another article published in Communication Reports in 2007 ranked our program 16th in the nation among Ph.D. programs.

Switzler HallThese rankings are no one-time fluke, but an indication of the quality of the program over the years. A few years ago, an article published in the Journal of Communication (2005) ranked our program 4th in publications by current faculty in the top National Communication Association and International Communication Association journals. Another article published in Communication Quarterly (2004) ranked our department 14th based on publications from 1915-2001.

During the 2009-2011 academic years, Switzler Hall (right), home of the Department of Communication, will be undergoing a complete renovation. The entire insides of the building will be gutted. When we return, we will have a state of the art building inside 1871 bricks in which to continue to teach undergraduate and graduate students effectively while producing the type of innovative research that gives us a high ranking national reputation.

During the renovations to Switzler Hall, the Department of Communication will move to temporary space in the Heinkel Building which is located across Elm Street from Peace Park between Sixth and Seventh Streets. Our mailing address, phones and e-mail addresses will remain the same.
