Department of Communication Hosted Summer Institute on Organizational Communication and Culture

In July, the Department of Communication collaborated with the Asian Affairs Center and Office of the Provost and International Programs to host its third Summer Institute on Communication and Culture for eighteen students and one faculty member visiting from Shanghai Normal University in Shanghai, China. This summer’s two week institute was led by associate professor Rebecca Meisenbach, the department’s current Director of International Programs. Meisenbach, along with graduate students Peter Jensen and Danielle Halliwell, conducted lectures introducing students to the communication concepts and theories necessary for understanding and engaging in successful interactions within organizational contexts. Outside the classroom, students enjoyed getting a taste of American culture by touring KOMU and Museao in Columbia, visiting the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City, shopping at the Lake of Ozarks, and hanging out at the City Museum and the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis.  The institute concluded with a day of celebration including student presentations, an awards ceremony, and a farewell dinner.
