MizzouComm Alumni Announces New Planned Giving Endowment

The Department of Communication is excited to announce the commitment of a $750,000 estate gift from Ed & Dawn Voss to start the Edward L. And Dawn L. Voss Endowment Fund.

This fund is created to support student-centered opportunities for students to work with department faculty on research-based community outreach, preferably in areas of media literacy and/or misleading content. “We hope this gift will increase knowledge and awareness of media literacy so that communities can better process information from a myriad of sources” says Mr. Voss.

Mr. Voss graduated from the University of Missouri in 1977 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Radio-TV-Film Production. In 2006, he received a Master’s Degree from Webster University in Media Communications. Mr. Voss spent most of his career working as an Operations Engineer for KTVI Fox 2 News Station in St. Louis and then in 2006 started working at Lindenwood University as their Director of Operations for their student run TV station and an Assistant Professor in Communications. He remained working in those roles until his recent retirement in June of 2020. Mrs. Voss holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from Maryville University.

“Money invested in student education not only enhances the lives of the students, but also the societies in which they live and work. We can’t think of a better way for alums or individuals to invest than in the intellectual and personal development of future generations” says Mr. Voss.

Thank you to Ed and Dawn for their transformational gift! It’s only through the generosity and support of our many alumni and friends that we’re able to maintain the margin of excellence that allows MizzouComm to thrive.
