Bio

Angela Ragsdale is a second-year PhD student specializing in Mediated Communication and Identity, Diversity, and Communication. Her work examines the effects of mass media and new technologies, like virtual reality(VR)  and videogames, on ethnic-racial identity formation and maintenance, focusing particularly on the Hispanic/Latinx population. She received her B.A. in Psychology and Anthropology, as well as a minor in Linguistics from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) where she completed her Senior Honors Thesis examining the impacts of positive representation in the form of counterstereotypes and counternarratives on emerging Hispanic/Latinx adults ethinic-racial identity from a media psychological lens. She continues her work in this area at Mizzou. 

Angela currently teaches two sections of COMM 1200 – Public Speaking within the Communications department. Additionally, Angela serves as the Communication Representative on the 42nd Graduate Professional Council (GPC) and works to give a voice to  all graduate students, including those in the Communication department in advocating for their needs  and ensuring that their needs are met.
