Koyena Biswas
Koyena Biswas is a first year doctoral student in the department of communication.
My education so far has enabled me to dive deeper into the theories of communication and helped me find a niche for furthering my career in academia that encapsulates the following fields of study integral to my research interests: social justice communication, because causes for a better future motivates me; organizational communication, because I feel the need for more structures of equity; media studies, because public discourses are created and moderated by the media.
I want my work as a scholar to leverage my theoretical and practical knowledge in communication to explore and create spaces and platforms that foster inclusive and equitable learning communities. My work in communication, journalism, and education has shown me that organizational culture and identity plays a powerful role in how the emerging workforce views and participates in academia, communication, and the media industry. Through my coursework and research engagements as a doctoral student, I want to continue to immerse myself into studying issues revolving around the topics of identity, culture and intersectionality from a critical, cultural, interpretive, and constructivist lens. Other areas of research that I am trying to dive deeper into, to support my knowledge and scholarship include language, gender, and rhetoric of social change.
