Dr. Kevin J. Hales Appointed to the Governing Board of the Council of Igbo States in America 

Dr. Kevin J. Hales, an assistant teaching professor in the Department of Communication and an internationally respected public scholar, has been appointed to the Governing Board of the Council of Igbo States in America (CISA). This Atlanta-based organization serves as the paramount voice of the Ndi-Igbo people across the Americas, Europe, and Africa. As a member of CISA's Governing Board, Dr. Hales will contribute to the organization’s leadership and strategic direction.

Dr. Hales recently participated in the virtual World Igbo Conference 2024, where he delivered one of the keynote addresses. Additionally, he was invited to present a virtual discussion as part of "Nzuko 2024 - Africa Week" in Paris, France. This event took place in late May and was organized by AfrikaFora/AfricaFora, an organization dedicated to promoting and disseminating African culture, history, and innovation worldwide through its events. Dr. Hales presented on how leaders in Africa and the Caribbean can better communicate the notion of good governance to their citizens. Other presenters at Africa Week this year include famed activist Dr. Jane Elliot.

Among his numerous projects, Dr. Hales is launching a podcast titled "Conversations with Kevin," which aims to facilitate honest dialogues about Africa and the African diaspora, emphasizing shared experiences and collective progress.The podcast seeks to reconnect people of African descent, encouraging mutual value, honor, and collaboration. Dr. Hales plans to feature various guests, including members of the Council of Igbo States in America (CISA), an organization dedicated to collective African efforts. Inspired by his experience as a National Humanities Center (NHC) Podcasting Scholar with San Diego State University, the podcast is slated to debut its first episode in mid-September.
