In circumstances when a class instructor is not able to attend their assigned class and it is essential that another substitutes in their place, the department will offer compensation for the substitute at the following rates:

1. $100 per class meeting for an undergraduate course, including Comm 1200.
2. $300 per class meeting for a graduate level seminar course.

Determination as to whether the department will provide a substitute instructor is made by the chair on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the absent instructor. Substitute instructor compensation is not provided for proctoring an exam, or other “non-teaching” activities such as collecting end-of-the-semester evaluations or final exam prep sessions.
