Resources may exist so that all faculty members who wish to teach in the summer session are able to do so. Because funding is never guaranteed by the Dean/Provost office, there may be years when funding is inadequate for all faculty members who wish to teach in the summer. In those summers, the following guidelines will be used in this order to determine which classes and faculty members will be given priority funding for the summer.

1. Instructors of courses needed to fulfill graduate students' plans of study will be given first priority.
2. Tenure track faculty will be prioritized over non-tenure track faculty.
3. Faculty who did not teach the previous summer will have priority over those who taught the previous summer.
4. Among faculty who did not teach the previous summer, those who received research funding for salary the previous summer will have priority over faculty who did not teach or have research funding for salary the previous summer.
5. Newer tenure track faculty will have priority over advanced faculty (reversed seniority).

During most years, faculty members have been able to amicable agree on who will teach during the first four week session and who will teach during the second four week session in order to provide a balanced schedule for students. In the event that such an agreement cannot be mutually reached, the chair will use seniority by rank and then years of service to determine the teaching schedule.
